In a SMD LED a YAG phosphor coating on the emitter takes up some of the blue light output and generates yellow light through fluorescence. This combination of yellow and blue light appears white to human eyes.

In 2002, LED’s luminous efficacy was 18-22 lumens per watt (lm/W). In 2012, a white LED was claimed to be able to give out 254 lm/W, and 303 lm/W in 2014.

 

How to choose the right color tone?

Color temperature normally depends on the application environment.

2700K is warm and relaxing, like incandescent light.

3000K is crisper than 2700K, like halogen light.

4000K is cooler than 3000K and 2700K, mostly used in offices and commercial areas.

6500K is very cool and similar to daylight, mostly used in working places.
