US Lighting Facts label, Energy Star and DLC requirements

As the world’s major LED application base, Europe and the United States market is vast, but they also proposed strict requirements on the LED lights and LED lamp energy efficiency testing. On the other hand, the U.S. current LED bulbs and lamps energy efficiency requirements focused on Lighting Facts label, Energy Star and DLC. Lighting Facts label is to make lighting data more specific and more credible; it lists five aspects to tell customers about the product’s performance parameters.
In October 2012, the lighting facts have added two Optional requirements. Energy Star is co-founded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Energy Department in 1992, aims to ensure all the listed products comply with energy efficiency requirements, The supervisory of Energy Star is very strict, EPA randomly select some products from the market listed by Energy Star to do testing annually, once checks the unqualified products, it will cancel the Energy Star qualified immediately, and entitled to ask manufacturers to compensate consumers.
DLC is a voluntary energy efficiency program initiated by the U.S. Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership, it certifies high-performance LED lamps that have not yet been listed by “Energy Star” standard in United States. Lighting Facts label, Energy Star and DLC all belong to voluntary requirements; in California, the portable LED lamps special requirements belong to mandatory.
U.S. energy efficiency standards have qualification requirements for energy efficiency testing laboratory, they must be independent third parties, it only effective by passing the accredited laboratory test data and reports. Facing the European and American energy efficiency standards barriers, LED export enterprises have a lot of homework to do to gain a firm foothold in the global market.
