I. Introduction 

An X running tool is a wireline service tool used to run and set type ‘X’, ‘XN’ locking mandrels in landing nipples. The X running tool can be set up to run devices either in selective or non-selective mode. By choosing selective mode, devices can be run through landing nipples of the same size and type,before the operator performs a manipulation at the desired location nipple,and set the device. In the non-selective mode,the locking mandrels will locate the highest nipple.
